Some rain must have got in between my double glazing windows last week.

Yesterday there was condensation so I tried to dry it out with a hairdryer when ooooomph a big crack appeared.

Now i have to buy a whole half window.

A whole half window?
Oh pooh sorry for that. Hope it isn't too expensive.

Tilly LOL - that's an Irish one for you.

To be honest I did think there was a possibility that the inside pane could have been replaced but have to buy the full double glazing. JjCon
Or half a whole window
Question Author
Stupid bu$$er I am.
Which half is the hole in? The whole half or the half whole?
I had condensation in one of my double glazed windows once and only had to replace one pane of glass jj .......
Question Author
I thought that too Chappie.
How old is the double glazing?
Question Author
It is more than 10 years old.
You know condensation happens between the panes as the double glazing gets older and the units start to break down?

Very unlikely rain got in to cause it.
Almost certainly not rain. That happens to double glazing eventually, the seal goes, and I believe you always have to have the whole window replaced with the older style. I've got one that's gone like that and I just live with it. At least you've warned me not to have a go with a hairdryer.
I have one with slight condensation. Luckily it hasn't got worse over the years.
Ummmm is correct JennyJoan, its more than likely to be the seal has gone.
Question Author
Well it is cracked now so now need a new dg pane.
Any chance of claiming on the house insurance?

"I accidentally directed the hairdryer at the window"

You never know.
Question Author
Well Hopkirk - will see how much it is and I do believe when you claim insurance they up your premiums - so they do - big Jim from Corrie.
Not always, Jenny.
No point in insuring if you aren't prepared to claim.
Question Author
Glazier just gone and he has given me a good price - I am happy with it.

He did say it was a coincidence that I was trying to dry the condensation thinking it was rain - he said if anything breaks the seal it is the sun over time - as the rubber softens and retracts.
