I'm stumped!
18 down:Sediment's beginning to rise in river around current position (4) there is an extra letter in the wordplay which is 'E' SI_E
Now I come to the end 'the cause & effect' = 37 cells.
I've found (I hope) 3 lots of nine cells vertically.
That leaves me with 10 more cells to find, there is a 7/8 letter word on the bottom line which may or may not to be anything to do with it.
I know nothing about this pastime!
Thanks in advance

The extra 10 letters yield the 3-word statement made by one of the protagonists to the other in response to the other's mirth after the event described by the line of dialogue. It's a very famous piece of live radio often replayed on TV and radio.
The first two words run horizontally and are found halfway down the puzzle, with the third on the bottom line and are meant to represent pictorially the effect of the event decsribed in the dialogue.

Gregsdad,
sorry to sound a bit thick. Have all the answers etc. but how does the 3-word statement pictorially represent the effect?
Do the two 6 cell entries represent the two things that normally rest on top of the three verticals being dislodged? (this is hard to find a way of asking without spoiling it for anyone still doing the puzzle - and I don't know if this is actually what happened, though I have heard the voice commentary many times).
