Political satire - which Spitting Image was - has been around for hundreds of years, and all politicians accept carricaturing as part and parcel of political life.
Plenty of cabinet ministers have framed prints of Gerald Scarfe's cartoons which are far more savage than anything SI would come up with.
So I think the notion of 'mocking the dead' is somewhat misplaced here.
