Divx is a method of compression and you need to install it so that your player can play files coded with it. Problem is there are others. Xvid is another common one. Try this: Download 'gspot' and run it and load your file into it. This will tell you what codec you need for that file, then you can locate the right one. Some people will tell you to use a codec 'pack' such as Nimmo. I know others use these packs without trouble, but I had huge problems with them so prefer to install codecs individually as I need them. Your choice really.
