I attended the annual Drummer Live Show at Olympia in London over the weekend, and considering that the entire event consists of thousands of poeple within arms length of drum kits, there was a little trepidation about the Two-Minute Silence at 11:00 a.m.

The Ode Of Remembrance was read out over the tannoy covering the entire building, and The Last Post was played, and then - silence.

For the duration, every single person stood exactly where they were and didn't move, and there was complete reverential silence.

It was a very moving time, and a tribute to the drummer community that people who make a racket, either for fun, or for a living, know how to show appropriate respect when the occasion demands.

I have been at Waterloo station where, even on a sunday, people are rushing to get trains, tickets, taxis and so on. It was as though the station was frozen, there was no movement at all, not even the children.
