Postage to Ireland

I want to send a small package to the ROI from the UK, but according to the Royal Mail website neither Airmail nor Surface Mail are available to Ireland. So how do I send it - does it count as domestic?

No, it counts as Europe

You can send it as a letter (it will go airmail regardless - there is no surface mail service) or as a small packet, when you have the choice of air or surface.

You must be misreading the web site - it's there plain enough. Look under International.

It clearly says (and in large print!) - 'not available to the Republic of Ireland or Canada'.

It says the same on the Surface Mail page. I'm sure you're right, dzug, but am I misreading or are they misinforming?

ROI is another country, it is not a bit of the UK and even if you live in Belfast and post to Dublin it will have to go airmail.

Have a look at some of the discussions about this on the eBay forums and you get an idea of the scale of the problem....causes all sorts of hooha.

I send goods regularly to Europe which includes Republic of Ireland so have received booklet giving rates from 3rd. April (Next Monday) for small packet = Up to 100g. �1.10. 120g �1.21, 140g. �1.33, 160g �1.45, 180g �1.57, 200g �1.69. etc. up to 2kg. max (�10.69) They do go Air Mail. I have looked at website and the bit about Ireland & Canada is there as you say but is very misleading as also it their booklet. It refers to the maximum weight to Ireland and Canada for Books which are sent as `Printed Paper`. In their wisdom Royal Mail have introduced new rates from next Monday 3rd. April to 21st. August. From 21st. August there will be new rates which will depend on measurements as well as weight. Being a mail-order company, I have to try and keep up with rates but they sent me a booklet with a hole in to check the depth some months ago - then more recently sent another booklet with a different size hole with apologies for sending wrong size hole the first time! So you can see they do take some understanding.

If you click on "Postal Calculator" on the site and follow the instructions (the ROI is overseas) it gives the rates for the different weights and postal methods.

It's badly formatted - what it actually means is that printed papers over 2kg cannot be sent to ROI or Canada - the asterisk showing it's a footnote is missing. If you follow the what it costs/click here link and scroll down to the bottom, you'll find the text again, with the asterisk this time.

I agree the Royal Mail website is confusing for ROI. I want to send a standard letter (one A4 sheet + DL envelope) weighing 10 grams but I couldn't work out the postage from their site. Besides, I'm sure I read somewhere that you could use a normal 1st class stamp to send any letter less than 20 g to any country within the EU.
