Hi Ed.Once again there is some grumbling about the BA system.Someone suggested that a previous star system was better (I wouldn't know as I wasn't a member then). From what I have heard it does seem that it could be a fairer system and should eradicate some of the silly BA's that crop up now and again.Would you consider re-instating that system?

It's a complete waste of time. How often does a poster receive a single answer, providing them with everything they need eyt they either fail to return to the thread and/or fail to ackowledge it? As I've joked about them in the past, I don't care for Badges/Best Answers, I just want some indication that the person got what they wanted i.e. something that tells us...

ED, Still not answered my original post
I don't really pay attention to my BAs, but notice that I'm sitting at 98. What happens when/if I reach 100? WIll Johnny Depp jump out of a cake? Will my PC implode? Will I even notice?
No 2sp...someone will start a thread to congratulate you :-)
I'd rather Johnny and a cake, ummmm.
We can't always get what we want :-)
In defence of the crossword section, which was why I really joined ab. Most of the people who post there acknowledge the replies that they receive and usually by name. There is rarely, if ever, any bitchiness and the people there made me feel very welcome. If there is such a problem with ba's either do away with them entirely, or devise one system for crosswords, eg BA's and another for the other section eg stars or whatever. Otherwise this thing will go on and on and on.
I've sometimes given a detailed correct answer in Law and someone else has given a less detailed incorrect answer has been given BA. Do I care? No, not one jot. But it does concern me that an uneducated user searching for a similar question may give credibilty to the "best answer" when it has no credibility whatsoever, other than the fact it was what the OP wanted to hear.
no Barmaid
or should I say Yes Barmaid

I have noticed that your answer languishes and some b+++it wins

I try to point this out to the thickos -a s you know what you are talking about and the rest of us dont.

so you ARE noticed .....if not thanked ( enough )
"Would you consider re-instating that system?"

No, it was even more pointless in terms of surfacing a top answer. The BA has a nice effect of supplying late comers with a view to what

I think it was the subtle interaction people liked in CB. Like saying "yeah, I got it" without having to respond directly?
That's interesting Barmaid.

Would a democratic system fix that?
