JVC DV Video Capture problem

I have a JVC mini DV camera. My laptop has no fire wire port. I have the camera connected with an S Video lead.

I cannot get the Video edit software to see the camera when I try to capture. Have any of you bright people got any ideas I can try?

I'm afreaid you might be out of luck. The S-video port on most laptops is for output only.
