I think best answers should be given by majority vote of the people on the thread rather that the Op.

At what stage would that kick in? after 10 answers, 20 answers, 100 answers, would the Ed be able to stay awake long enough to award the accolade on some of the slower threads?

I know it wouldn't work, Baldric. I said so earlier today.

I made the suggestion, last evening, without giving it some forethought.

it would be interesting as nobody would know who anyone else had voted for; but as soon as, say, Baldric's answer acquired enough votes it would appear as BA, displacing whoever had one vote fewer.
