i watched it last night. it was more making the point of what was acceptable back then that wouldn't be now. Quite an eye-opener actually - the Benny Hill type sexual innuendo on taboo topics.

... but we didn't know any better. We thought things like Starsky and Hutch was a real walk on the wild side !
Stopped watching when I saw that poor elephant being made to smoke.
Kojak, The Dukes of Hazzard, Dempsey and Makepeace, and Cagney and Lacey, can sometimes be seen on cable TV. None have stood the test of time.
I wonder what they'll be saying about our TV programmes in 40 years time - if there's any TV then

i agree prudie a real eye opener !!
It just goes to show how things have changed. What was probably acceptable then, certainly isn't now. Next week they are talking about progs like the Black and White Minstrel Show which was a very popular programme in it's day but is now deemed as not PC. Wonder if they will show clips from programmes like Love Thy Neighbour and 'Til Death Us Do Part?
Everyone takes life far too seriously these days. Back then everyone had a sense of humour and didn't look for ways of being offended.
it got even worse in the eighties when they started dumbing down
Well said Dave50, I am fed up absolutely with all this PC nonsense. If white people want to blacken their faces, and black people want to whiten their faces, where's the harm?
I was more offended by the totally unfunny, so-called comedians we've had thrust on us today, tut-tutting at the clips.

Don't know if they still show this now, but it wasn't long ago that ITV3 were showing old on the buses episodes. That was very sexist by todays standards, but that said, you know that and it was sort of part of the nostalgic appeal (to those of us who grew up then as I did)

However one episode slipped by the censors and caused me to choke on my tea when Stan asked Chalky (a black driver) to play the white man.

I also recall a kiddie karaoke show called minipops that would be considered only fit for paedophiles now.

My tab went loopy on me.
