Lakes are not big enough to cause the same effects

No but there might be some wind on the way judging by the battering we got this morning out in the Atlantic.
To give you an idea how big the "Great" Lakes are; Lake Ontario is 18,980 square km, while Yorkshire is 11,903 square km.
Hasn't Yorkshire been sliced up?
Ah, we've only got the Atlantic to worry about, rain has passed now.

The area of Lake Superior if 82,103 square km, only about 2000 square km smaller than Ireland, North and South.
