Does Any Part Of This Remind You Of The Hunger Games Trilogy Or Divergent Trilogy
1 Answers
As an amateur writer who one day hopes to be published, I am worried that people might label me a copycat. I mean, someone told me that I should not write the novel in first person present tense because, since my novel is set in a post-apocalyptic world, people will unfavourably compare it to popular novels like The Hunger Games and Divergent.
I don't want to write my novel in past tense or third person. I want to be published but more than that I want to write something how I like it. I honestly like first person present tense just for the fact that I feel like what I'm reading is happening as I read.
Anyway, besides the facts that I'm writing the novel in first person present tense and that it features a teenaged female main character in a post-apocalyptic setting, there aren't that much similarities between my novel and The Hunger Games trilogy or Divergent trilogy. My novel is about witches and warlocks and covens and aliens.
However, since the novel is my own work I might be biased. I posted the first chapter on Wattpad.com. Please read and give me your honest opinions and constructive criticism. Tell me if any part of what you read (even if you don't read the whole thing) reminds you of any novel you've ever read.

But even when I've not read your work I want to tell you that I don't think you should worry about being labeled a copy cat and all that simply because, every books receives praise and criticisms, even the most famous books have been said to be copied from other books. So, as long as you know that you didn't copy, you don't need to worry about what other people thinks. And to be honest, authors do sometimes base their work on other peoples and take inspirations from other stories and that is perfectly fine.
Also, the Hunger Games and Divergent are all what are called dystopian novels, they are all based around the storyline of a bad ruler and people going to rebel against the ruler because they are unhappy about the way their city/country is ran. And so far I have not seen any similarities since your one is based on fantasies. Of course, I have not read your work yet and so I can't know for sure, but just so you know.
I read a lot, and therefore if you need any more opinions feel free to contact me at [email protected], in the meanwhile I will find time to read your work!
good luck and keep writing.
