You can download the title deed from the Land Registry (for £3) but I'm not sure whether it shows historic data as well as current ownership.
Otherwise you're probably left with consulting old electoral rolls (which will only show adult occupiers with an entitlement to vote, thus possibly excluding some foreigners), which may well be available at your local County Record Office. (NB: If visiting a Record Office for the first time, remember to take your passport, or other photo ID, together with proof of where you live - such as a utility bill. You usually need such proof of identity to register for a reader's card)

>>>Do you check the electoral roll in library?
The current electoral roll might be available in some libraries but the only place you can be sure of finding it is at your local council offices. Older editions might be stored by libraries that had them (especially if they've got a Local Studies Department) but the Record Office is where you should normally look.
