This one is giving us a headache. Grandma can remember a French film which features a beautiful woman who arrives at a village and becomes the object of attention of three or four blokes. She eventually chooses the farmer and rejects the wealthier squire. Anybody recognise this ?
maximo.sorry don't know director nor actress. It was set between the wars and she was a teacher. Goord looking girl.French with subtitles. She was a bit of an outsider I think. Can't think of any more clues. Any guesses ?
It sounds identical to Thomas Hardy's "Under the Greenwood Tree" The heroine was a music teacher and her suitors were, a landowner, a vicar and a cart driver. It may have been a French adaptation but the story seems to be the one! Set in the 19th century.
