Today I got my first ever parking ticket. I was in Gloucester and for those of you who know it, just a bit further down to Wilkinsons on the other side of the road there is a section of disabled parking spaces, all full of course. They all park with bonnet facing the kerb. I parked next to the last one on double yellow lines and put my blue badge in the window. Did my shopping, came back one hour later and LO and behold there was a ticket on the windscreen. I thought you could park on double yellows with? a disabled badge or have I got it wrong

Yes you can, for up to 3 hours provided you have set your clock.

However, if it is 'no loading' area you cannot park there with a disabled badge. There should be a sign plate stating 'no loading at any time' or 'no loading between x hours and y hours on x day and y day'. There will also be kerb markings - these are yellow lines that run up the kerb at 90 degrees to the double yellow lines.
Found this and of course I don't know your area.

//If you're a Blue badge holder, and you don't park in certain areas of central London, you can park:

on a single or double yellow line for a maximum of three hours, unless there is no loading or unloading//
As a general rule, you can park on double yellows as long as there are not also the stripes on the kerb indicating 'no loading'. You must not cause an obstruction though, or park in a position causing danger to other road users or pedestrians.

Some towns have a specific restriction on all parking (whether for disabled persons or not) which means that you can only park in designated spaces - there should be signs informing people of this at the entrance to the zoned area.
as long as you were not causing an obstruction or on a loading bay, marked by double vertical lines on kerb, then you can park with badge..appeal if not the case !
Do you remember if there are loading/unloading stripes down the edge of the kerb?

If so then, despite the blue badge, you cannot park there UNLESS you are loading/unloading.

Did you take a picture of the markings? If there are no edge markings you might have a case. Any other signs or markings??

Got caught myself like this whilst visiting Clacton a few years ago !!
puternut, those kerb markings mean you CAN'T load or unload

https://www.gateshead.gov.uk/Transport%20and%20Streets/Parking/street/singleanddouble.aspx

Anyone is allowed to stop on yellow lines for the purpose of loading/unloading or dropping off/picking up passengers UNLESS there are 'no loading/unloading' kerb markings.

I did set my clock. I'm not too sure whether there were yellow lines on the pavement or not but on the ticket it does mention loading so I am probably in the wrong.

Thanks for all the info everyone.
I've just lokked on Google Earth Caran - you can see the "no Loading" lines on the kerb.
bhg; That is amazing! what a strange world we live in. Could you see any dog-poop? :0)
Khandro - no, but there's what looks like a lot of squashed chewing gum on the pavement outside "Cash Converters". Perhaps they give you a better price if you're not chewing gum in the shop.
Interestingly, on the satellite view there's half-a-dozen cars parked where Caran got booked but the resolution isn't good enough to see whether or not the "No Loading" lines were on the pavement then (2007).
^ If we think cctv cameras are bad, just wait 'til councils get their own drones! "1984" isn't far off, Orwell was right, he just got the date wrong.
