Unable To Open Recovered Files?

After doing a file recovery for a friend who is studying photography, I managed to get good results and then filtered them by file type. However I'm puzzled by certain files which I'm unable to open either Windows Photo Gallery or Adobe Photoshop. Does that mean these files are corrupt or is there some way to convert/open them? Thanks in advance for help.

That would be my interpretation. Whatever you used 'thinks' it has recovered a file but it has put together a corrupted version.

If it is corrupt then I don't see the effort to open and partially recover whatever is salvageable is likely to be worth anything. You'd need to know the intricacies of the file and how to get the useful stuff anyway, which you are unlikely to be able to do. Shrug and write it all off.

Unless you can use a better recovery programme on the drive.

Thus the value of regular back-ups.
What are the file types? If they are .raw files then you need a specific software to view them, even Photoshop doesn't open them unless you have extensions installed.
