No wonder my two daughters who live in OZ head for the shops when they come to the UK to visit us.

I spent a few hours yesterday looking for suitable gifts for them, and our grandchildren, but the choice is dire, and I looked at about six.

I usually send gift vouchers or money, but decided to try on-line. Even big department stores and Toys R Us were crap and the only half decent site was Ebay, where I bought some flameless battery coloured candles, and they have to come from Hong Kong.

The British (and US) high street is the best and most varied in the world. Shopping in Sydney is dire. A hotel receptionist said that she gets all her stuff in the UK and if by some chance you do see a nice dress in a shop in Sydney, everybody else is wearing it.
