Most manufacturers of most things are paring their costs to the bone to keep prices down and the result is falling quality and/or quantity.
I bought some sheets the other day, same make as I've always had (and been happy with). One wash and they were just like tissue paper (probably about as strong as your Kle$$ex). Useless. Tins of tuna have become so small that it's at the point where one is not enough for a couple of decent sandwiches. Tins of Quality Street are now about half the size they used to be and many of the varieties have disappeared.
All this may keep inflation down but personally I'd sooner suffer a bit of inflation and have the goods that are of decent quality and sufficient quantity.
