Don McLean's rendering of Love Hurts. The Everly Brothers did it, Roy Orbison did it, Nazareth did it, why should Don McLean go and do it. You may well ask. But just listen.

Jeff Buckley's version of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah is masterful. Madonna's American Pie, on the other hand, is the biggest musical travesty in the history of musical travesties.

I agree, Jeff Buckley singing Hallelujah makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

Others I like are:-

Sinead O'Conner "Nothing Compares 2 U" - Prince's original version was cack.

And

Johnny Cash "Hurt" - orginally by Nine Inch Nails.

Johnny Cash's version of Hurt makes me sob buckets, I think it might have something to do with how poignant the video is and how shaky his voice has become.

Mind you, I saw NIN live last summer and shed a couple when Trent started this song, maybe I'm just a big sap.
