Labour Cutbacks?

Every Labour politician I've heard in the last couple of weeks has promised further cuts in public spending if/when they're elected in May. This despite opposing every cut made by the present government. Surely using the term 'further cuts' suggests they must agree with the current cuts.
I believe there's a word/expression for this situation, does anyone know what it's called?

Hypocrisy?
Confusticate
Question Author
Morning Naomi. ;o) Doubtless it is that, but I was thinking it might be a soligism, solipsism, or something like that. Sometimes I wish I didn't leave school when I was 12. ;-(

morning tilly ;) I'll look that one up.
My recollection of pre-election cutbacks was that both Labour and conservatives agreed that cutbacks were necessary and the only dividing feature was that of the speed of cutbacks. Labour suggested a gradual reduction in cutbacks and the Conservatives a faster rate.

I'm confusticated, tilly. I rather doubt the machiavellian Labour Party are.

Yes sqad, that's the crux of the matter. By promising further cuts they're accepting the current cuts.
"Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls said Mr Osborne was being forced to accelerate spending cuts because he had failed to balance the budget.
He told Sky News: “He said he’d make people better off and that hasn’t worked. People’s wages are still falling compared to prices.

Play video “House Buyer’s Delight”

“And it’s that cost of living crisis which means for the next few years the revenues aren’t coming in and he’s got a huge problem and he’s saying he can somehow solve this with bigger spending cuts than before.”
He said the Chancellor’s promise of tax cuts worth £7bn in the next parliament were an “unfunded fantasy”.
But he said Labour would keep the stamp duty reforms and abolition of air passenger duty for children, while making savings by measures including reversing top rate tax cuts and taking winter fuel allowance away from rich pensioners.

Oh, and it's called 'obfuscation'.
Question Author
They're obfuscous alright.
'No More Cuts' has a nice ring to it. And a simple appeal.
Are you saying both leading political parties are wrong and cuts aren't needed?
Question Author
Sigh, no, quite the opposite. Labour have been condemning cuts for 4 years, yet now promise further cuts.
Ah right, it was just that your 'No More Cuts' has a nice ring to it. And a simple appeal.' Comment looks like you were suggesting that such a stance might be a vote winner. Sigh.
What about cuts to MPs salaries I reckon that might save a quid or two.
How's about cutting income tax out & putting up purchase tax then the more you spend the more tax you pay.
Because that would stifle spending, strangling the economy and lead to people's money being held in banks making the banks 'wealthier'......and we all know where that leads.
