The duty on unleaded petrol and diesel are the same at 37.1p litre. The cost of producing diesel is cheaper (it is a lower fraction in the process). It seems to me that the public are once again the fall guys for the unscrupulous shenanigans of the oil companies. Or am I missing something which can explain the 4p or 5p difference between the two products?
because diesel cars do more mpg, the owners buy less fuel. so the oil companys put the price up to make up the difference. or personally as i beleive it's the government.
crikey.i am in my mid 30's and i remember when diesel was a lot less attractive and it was nearly half the price of petrol!! but as vinrex said, you can sometimes get twice as much to the gallon in a diesel so its the fuel companies and no doubt the government have thier share!
i think they will have to have another coloured diesel for trabsport companies, otherwise they will drive people to eaurope to open depots and savi millions!!
Here in Belgium, diesel is cheaper than petrol. In neighbouring countries, it is more expensive. In Luxembourg, fuel is considerably cheaper than in Belgium and France. It must be to do with taxation levels.
