What a great pressie. How much are you looking at paying? My friend has just installed one in her car after a collision where the other party is claiming is her fault (I was in the car, it wasn't her fault!), I think she paid about £120 for the cam.

I have the same one as Slackalice. I've had it almost exactly a year and have been very pleased with it, although I think the one listed is an updated, improved version.
Be aware that there are several similar models available, with and without built-in memory and with/without GPS. The built-in memory is really of no use; the sensible option is to buy the biggest micro-SD card it will take (32GB for mine) because it's far easier to get the video into your computer that way. As a rough guide a 32GB card will hold approx 6 hours of HD video and the camera can be set to either stop recording at that time OR start to overwrite itself, so that the last 6 hours is always available. The GPS option is a "big boys' toy"; with the software provided (or better third-party software) you can track your journey on Google Earth. It also displays the geographical coordinates of your position, so leaves no doubt as to where any incidents occurred.
