It irks me to know that sums of money donated go towards admin, advertising an fall the concoction of running the charity when most of the donations should be focused on giving to the charity itself and those it is/should be intended for.... Life eh?
Morrisons give 4 points for every litre of fuel. To get £5 voucher, one therefore has to accumulate 5000 points. To acquire the card on which these points are recorded, one has to give name, address, d.o.b., number in household, any special dietary needs (e.g. diabetic, coeliac, etc.) e-mail address, telephone number, etc.

A young man called today on behalf of the British Legion, a very worthy cause. He wanted me to set up a direct debit to give a donation each month. I wasn't prepared to do that but would have gladly donated a couple of pounds if he had a collecting tin. He told me that he wasn't allowed to accept cash.
I usually donate to charity all the year round but at Christmas the charities up their game. I always have cards and envelopes from the Foot and Mouth painters asking me to send money in return, also the Salvation Army sending coasters, cards and bookmarks etc. They are all worthy causes but I always feel mean when I don't send money for them.
Whenever chuggers have turned up at my door I tell them I never give my bank details to anyone. They leave pretty quick. I now have a sticker on the front door saying no traders or cold callers. It works. I got angry in Gloucester a month or so back when chuggers accosted me going into stores. Twice. I complained on the store. Didn't do any good they still do it.
Charities pay between £40 and £120 for every person that signs up for direct debit donations and make £4 for every £1 it costs them so it's a good investment for them. Of course this goes to the agency that pays the 'chugger' who then pays the 'chugger'.
The 'chuggers' earn a living so it's good for them, too.
Charities get a good return from the free pens and other mailings otherwise they wouldn't do it.
I have never signed up with a 'chugger' but have never found them to be rude or pushy so have no cause to complain.
I am happy with the unpaid tin rattlers, too. Never feel obliged to give if I don't want to.
What I really, really don't like are the young bag packers at the end of the supermarket checkout. No, I don't want you packing my bags, thank you very much, nor do I want you standing there while I do so. Yes, I do drop a coin in your bucket because it is for local causes but get away from the checkout area, please. Why don't you offer to wash my car or mow my lawn or something I really need help with>
