The Two Ronnies
5 Answers
Does anyone remember a sketch the Two Ronnies did with a Brass Band. I think they both had drums, and were singing, amongst other songs, one to the tune of Entry Of The Gladiators. Ronnie B was singing about his love of food, and Ronnie C about his love of alcohol. When I was a child we had a cassette of it, and I used to think it was terribly grown up to listen to it. I can remember these lines 'aint it a pity the pubs in the city all close at half past ten, if I had the power they'd close for an hour then open up again, I could get chronic on vodka and tonic at any time I like, and while the policeman watched me car I'd nip home on me bike' - wouldn't be broadcast these days!! No, I have not been on the vodka and tonic myself!!!! Anyone recall any more of the sketch?

Old Herbert's drunk again
He's well away
He's got a bottle with a rubber tube stuffed down his trousers...
TEll me how's your love life Jack
Full of the joys of spring mate
Is it still the six-foot brunette? THe one with the enormous (bangs the drum)
Yes her name is Mary Jane
Works at the mattress factory
Says life like a bed is what you make it
As long as you take it lying down
He's well away
He's got a bottle with a rubber tube stuffed down his trousers...

Ah, remember watching the sketch. Memory not good enough to recall all the song though. Was one of so many good ones they did. Got me wondering now. Glad you found the lyrics though.
It has also reminded be I had an LP of Jehoshaphat & Jones somewhere. Must dig it out, and then wonder how the heck I can play it now. Maybe I'll just go visit YouTube.
