In London this year, we visited the bomber command memorial in hyde Park, I had the privilege of meeting an old gent who had been bomber crew 43 to 45. He stood proud 96 years old temembering old comrades with tears and respect, medals lining his chest. I proudly shook his hand and listened to his tales for far longer than I should have. My wee tours didn't stand comparison. I'm proud to have met him.
I know many of our current aircrews, I know the pride they carry through the the history of the squadrons, the aircraft and the fliers... It's a tough job the men that do the job are proud to do so

not exactly accurate - the one in Russell Sq - no not the islamic bombs of ten years ago, but the 1940 bombs are out by 10-50m
The bombsite there is the modern block set in the terracotta block which has the 2nd Lord Denman brown plaque in it - same side as Lake Huron Uni

Why is Plymouth city centre so flat ?
The German bombers were meant to bomb Devonport but to get there they had to fly pver the hill where Devonport Hosp used to be and where the the anti aircraft batteries were sited
so they dumped their hbombs on the city centre and reported 'bombs away' as it was so so much safer
apparently not detected as there were no reconnaisance flights over Plymouth by the German Air Force after 1941.
but you pr[bably knew that .....

A few years ago the road we use to visit Trish's sister in Lincolnshire was closed when a farmer dug up a bomb. It turned out to be German about 500lbs and all the village turned out to see it blown up, but there were no records of any bombs been dropped and even the oldest locals knew of no rumours. The most popular theory was that it had been jettisoned after a raid on one of the local airfields.
