Sour Milk And Carpet Cleaning
12 Answers
A large glass of milk was spilled into our carpet last week and I cleaned it and then used an enzyme pet spray to remove the smell. Three days later and it stinks. Hie can I get rid if the smell completely?
Will a carpet cleaner/shampooer do the job?
Thanks GF

if you are using a wet and dry vac or carpet cleaner put a few teaspoons of wahing liquid ( the sort you put into the washing machine with your clothes) into the water tank instead of carpet cleaner. I use this all the time and it works really well, it is made to remove smells, food and bodily fluids from your clothes and works just as well on carpets, it is also...

Full fat milk? oh dear. What's the situation - carpet with underlay? Likelihood is the spillage has seeped into the deepest layers. If you have a wet n dry vac use that, but if not hire one of those rug doctors from the supermarket. The area needs to be re-wetted with a solution of low-foam detergent, which is then drawn out completely by the vacuum machine. This may need to be repeated several times. Rinsing the area with clear water also needed, several times.
The beauty of the rug doctor is it does the soaping and rinsing in one process without you needing to stop and empty buckets.
This will leave you with one nice clean patch of carpet so you'll probably want to do the rest of the carpet to match. But it should remove the pong.
And drink water, not milk.

I use this all the time and it works really well,
it is made to remove smells, food and bodily fluids from your clothes and works just as well on carpets,
it is also designed not to foam up in your washing machine, so doesn't mess up your carpet cleaner.
The best thing I ever bought is my Bissell carpet cleaner, you can usually pick them up really cheap from the Studio Catalogue.
I think that I only paid £60 for mine and it is still going strong twelve years on.
