SCREW(driver) ?

SPAR(e) ?

Question Author
many thanks ulysses100 - I though it might be screw for 27across but not sure of the explanation for 27across (spar)

27a. S = Quarter (South) + PAR = Mean (Average)

SPAR = Support

YARD = Support

This is a nautical link, a yard is a type of spar on a ship's rigging.
