Hi again, Caran.
Every night (any time from around now to about 5am) loads of posts appear on AB (usually in 'Business & Finance') in Russian. (Occasionally the question titles are in English, presumably so that they don't stand out so easily to the site moderators). Every post contains at least one link (and sometimes dozens) to commercial websites.
That spammer isn't trying to get anyone to click on the links. He simply knows that, if lots of links to the same website appear on the internet, Google's system will assume that it's a genuinely popular site and push that website higher up the list of results when someone searches for the the product or service offered on that site.
It's called 'search engine optimisation' (SEO). We also get loads of ads for a UK-based fitted kitchen company supplied by an SEO firm in the Phillipines.
Craft and I (together with roughly 15 other site moderators, most of whom prefer to remain anonymous) do our best to get rid of such posts!
