My second fave is 'The Tenent' a little known Roman Polanski film - if you want to know what the word 'paranoia' really means, watch this film. Don't have nightmares!
I went to see the Exorcist at a large widescreen cinema when it was first released. No one warned me beforehand that it was particularly scary. I don't remember ever being so scared, particularly when the little girl slowly turned her head right round. I've seen it again more recently and the whole film seemed quite comical.
I'm with you on that Beenee - isn't it weird how totally bizarre behaviour can be really scary. Molly - I bet you saw 'The Exorcist' on video? Being at home with a pause button ready is far different from breathing in the tension of a few hundred other petrified souls, with a huge 'in-your-face screen telling the tale, and no-where to pop out and make a cuppa!
A French film from the 50's "Les Diabolique" is very creepy. I was up late one night and watched it not knowing what to expect. Also, a film that has caused much debate on this site: "The Ring" ( US ). Again watched it not knowing much about it. Good God!!! First time I've been genuinely scared watching a film in years.
