Wonderful New Saga Prize Crossword For Jan 2015.

Well the new crossword has arrived and as predicted it is rubbish. I finished it in minutes .Just a five minute coffee break crossword from a newspaper. Feel very sad as there is no comparison with the old version. My favourite part of Saga magazine gone. Will welcome opinions.

The crossword was the only thing that made it worth subscribing for. Everything else in it could have been found in a dozen similar publications. We'll be cancelling our subscription as soon as we can.

Great shame that a very good, taxing crossword has been replaced by this month's effort. I think we all feared this might happen but am very disappointed. Let's hope there is an improvement next month.

I won a prize (a book) in the Nov. crossword; I haven't received my Jan. mag. yet, but if it is as you say, then I will be cancelling asap. Such a shame; the prize crossword was the sole reason for buying the mag. The remaining content is pap.

I have just emailed Saga to say how disappointed I was.
If this is a permanent change I shall cancel my subscription, as I only really got it for the crossword.

I think that any of us considering cancelling our subscriptions should do the same as margarettom and give our reasons why and see if they will go back to a decent crossword .

I also e-mailed Saga after my posting above^^, saying that I regretted the dismissal of setter "Cullen", and that I would not be renewing my subscription.

I have just sent an e-mail to the Editor.Telling how disappointed we are.

I wonder if the editor is happy that a previously eagerly anticipated
part of the Saga is now so derided?
The puzzle was a challenge & I was astonished by the 'sacking' of Cullen
who set a great cryptic event rather than a 'quick' crossword.

I totally agree. A dreadful disappointment. There are far fewer clues and it's way too easy. I didn't need the dictionary once. It actually looks like a children's crossword. The old crossword was a real challenge, something to get my teeth into, and the first thing I turned to in the magazine. As far as I was concerned it was the crossword to beat all crosswords. All the pleasure has now gone out of it. Unless they re-instate the original I may not even renew my subscription.
