Installing New Os On Asus Eee - Wifi And Boot Order Failing

hello techxperts, I've been playing with an old asus eee 901 and have successfully installed android to replace it's ancient linux OS. Problem is, the android OS doesn't see the VGA port.
On the other hand Ubuntu Easypeasy installs nicely and sees the VGA port - but three problems occur:
1.the wifi keeps trying and failing to make a connection. Basically keeps re-requesting the encryption key.
2. an error message appears on restart, and I have to start the install again from the usb.
3. Despite having gone through the install it asks for the usb device on startup, but even if the usb is connected I have to go through the full install again.
Any suggestions? TIA
Hope this makes sense.

.......aaaand sorted. I can live without the wifi for now, ethernet works fine. Boot order also sorted.
If you have an older laptop or desktop which is creaking a bit I would wholeheartedly recommend having a go at this totally free operating system.
