Broken Hip V Running
I am 36 years old female, in December 2014 I was told I had broken my hip, I am not sure how I had managed this. the pain I had been experiencing had been getting progressively worse over the month, I had been walking, running and getting on with life not realising my hip was broken.
I have run 2 half marathons and lots of ten k's since starting to run in 2011.
my query is ........ I miss running, the surgeon has told me I can run but to give it time, I think all I can do at the moment is swim which I will embrace however I want to run, i miss running. I have a review check up in march and I am hoping that the GP will tell me running is okay.
any suggestions, any one with experience of running following a broken hip, pretty much anything about broken hips, running & getting better.
looking forward to any thoughts, suggestions or just being able to chat with someone in the same situation as me.
thanks

He got discharged from Hospital, but he recently felt like he was suffering from Sciatica. His Doctor referred him back to Hospital and the x-rays confirmed the Doctor's fears. A small piece of bone had fractured off and the socket was cracked. He's been told that they cannot do a replacement until he's of pensionable age!
Being someone who has worked in a Sports Shop and sold Running Shoes for 2½ years, I would SUGGEST that you stay in the pool, as you will strengthen the joint without the impact travelling up your leg. You might have to be a little more patient. I would also stay off Treadmills too, for the foreseeable future.

Do you have any idea how you came by the injury? Was it as a result of an accident(trauma) or a stress fracture?
36 is a tad younger than one might expect for such an injury, unless you have a bone density problem or (which I very much doubt) a pathological fracture.
Were you scanned or had any form of blood tests etc?
It just seems a little odd that you've seen a surgeon yet don't appear to have had any investigations.
The problem may be aleviated by surgery(Dynamic Hip Screw) or less drastically using crutches for a period of time. Either way, you need s little more in-depth investigation before carrying out any more running IMH(and very limited)O.
