"an Insult To The Liver..."

Reading a bit about Dylan Thomas I saw mention of 'an insult to the liver'. I'm sure nobody ever said: 'That's the ugliest liver I've ever seen. When its time comes it'll need to be beaten to death with a stick'.
Is it just another way of saying, 'great harm'?

LOl...odd isn't it?

We "damage" the kidneys, we "affect" the brain, "strain" the heart and "insult"the liver.

We "lose our battle over cancer" but we "die" of heart problems.

All very emotive phrases embedded in medical folk-lore.

The Birmingham surgeon who "singed" his initials on the liver, certainly took it literally......

maybe its a "fashion" thing? I can remember hearing head injuries described as "cranial insult" Personally I hate to hear that someone "lost their battle" with cancer. To me it implies that if they had fought harder they wouldn't have died which is, of course, nonsense

What is the € payment for?

I missed out on my 25year service award from the civil service. I managed, however, to get an extra 20 years occupational pension after I was shoved out the door at the age of 40.

I think that I may bale out before then. Sometimes it all doesn't seem worth the effort.

I opened a bottle of red last night that definitely was 'an insult to the Liver'. Its currently bathing a tin full of lamb shoulder chops in the AGA as we speak

I haven't touched alcohol since I was about 20year old. I remember trying red wine and hating it (I soldiered on an finished the glass) it gave me a migraine.

Sandy - you must be a cheap date. Even with that sort of money you won't be able to pay for the wine, women and whatever else.

Inflation will eat into its value. By the time I come to spend it it might just pay for a night at the bingo and a taxi back home.
