Why do alot of people on here feel like they have to apologise for not knowing something, I thought that is the whole point of this site?? Some wise person (my mum) once said -

You know what you know,

You know what you don't know,

But you don't know what you don't know

Think about it it's true - no-one can help not knowing everything in the universe so come on you guys and gals chin up, ask away and be proud to want to know :-) x x x

very wise words from your mum. i always apologise for everything!! it drives me and everyone around me mad, i wish i could stop doing it!! i am one of those people where if someone steps on my toe, i will apologise!!!! so stupid!!

If people didn't ask questions, then other people wouldn't be able to feel good (I mean 'good', not 'smug') about answering them, so there's no need for anyone to be sorry about it.

If you need to know something, then it's not a stupid question.

i always apologize too, i once said sorry because a skiier rode into me and knocked me flying! Now where is the sense in that?!

Maybe those who do apologize are insecure...? (not saying i am) or maybe we are just trying to keep this world civilised!

We British are a nation of apologisers and thankers - it's inbuilt. In our desire tobe liked by everyone, we subcouncisouly say 'Sorry' and 'Thank you' for everything! Hold a door open for someone, they will say 'Thank you' - resist the temptation to say it back!

Likewise, people expressing an opinion often preface it with "I'm sorry but...." although i have to say i never do. My opinion is usually thought out, and i will defend it if challenged, if I was 'sorry', I wouldn't offer my opinion in the first place.
