Remember them? A little table specifically for your telephone, usually with space underneath for the massive phone books, a drawer for your personal telephone book and often with a padded seat built in so you could sit in your draughty hall in comfort to use the phone. Often in mahogany (or mahogany effect) with squirly wood trims.

My mother always wanted one but never got one.

Ahem, yes I have a telephone table in the hall just as you describe, it's solid oak and very beautiful - we don't sit on it, the phone is cordless and gets taken elsewhere.

Oh and the answer for here, a telephone desk, an old partners' desk, big desk lamp on it and loads of photos and 'rubbish' - phone books and useful things like sellotape, rubber bands, screwdrivers and bulbs in the drawers!
No, our telephone waas on the book case in the hall, where it was freezing, good ploy of Dad's to stop us racking up the bill!!
We never had a telephone let alone a table .
My Mum died in 1995 aged 91 and never had a phone in the house.
Not since the 70s when I thought it was rather a "posh" thing to have. ! Oh how wrong was I ?
I made a steel one in the 70's, It had a long padded seat for two. Don't know where it is now.
To be "on the phone" was to be a cut above the neighbours.

Janbee, it certainly was posh in the 70s. Getting the phone installed was an expensive business.
