Mr Race's mandate to represent his ward is 0. He should resign and fight a by election as a UKIP candidate, like an MP would.
This is a very hollow 'victory for UKIP.
And lets just put this Mayoralship into perspective.
Bishop Auckland is a Town Council with very few responsibilities. The County Council does most of the areas duties. The Town Council has just 11 councillors.
He was elected in the Westwood Close Ward and he got the lowest votes of the 3 Labour Councillors elected with just 315.

- It was crammed full of UKIP members because they had been tipped off about this stunt. They were not there for the people of Bishop Auckland, they were there for their own gratification.
