..in todays Daily Mail special Winston Churchill tribute edition reprinted from January 25th 1965. The article is written by Vincent Mulchrone. What a beautifully described and eloquently crafted piece of journalism. In the article VC uses two words, 'encomiums' and 'obsequies', I have never come across either word before, have you?.. today's newspaper journalists can't write like this, that is for sure.

An excellent article janzman, but who, besides me and you, are going to own up to reading the DM?
I read it sometimes :-)
My other half reads it and I do the puzzles...

Can't be off reading it, it gets C & P'd en bloc in the News Section on a daily basis!
are you sure the two words you mention aren't in the DM crossword? I'm sure you'd be allowed to mention them there.

(Yes, I know both words, but I'm not English, so that's all right.)
Do they still have page three in the DM.
I admit to reading it, the article was written in a way unknown to journalists today.
The only time I read the grauniad is on news threads on here as I do not hug trees and only eat lentils by accident.
Question Author
The Daily Mail has always had excellent feature writers, some of my favourites from the past include Keith Waterhouse...Ian Wooldridge...Lynda Lee Potter...Alan Coren...Nigel Dempster and currently Quentin Letts...Jan Moir...Samuel Johnson...Tom Uttley...Richard Littlejohn to name but a few.
I read it, along with other news stuff, every day.
See my post from last Thursday in "History" regarding Churchill...Quite interesting I thought.
To be perfectly honest I'm not sure why such a fuss is being made of the fiftieth anniversary of his death.
Unbelievable but true. The winner of the 3.25 race at Uttoxeter today was called......................................Winston Churchill and it won @ 3/1. Did i back it? No i did not, despite the fact that i am the self appointed King of Coincidence of the gambling forum in which i regularly participate. I never even saw it as i had unexpected guests and decided just to concentrate on those races being televised:-(
