No Connection

I have a pc and a laptop that is networked to it. All signs on the l/top are that it is connected,but I can't get on line .Any ideas please?

You've described the exact symptoms that I've experienced myself several times and have gone on to fix every time by resetting the TCP/IP stack, which is why I provided you with the instructions to do so.

Try turning off your router, waiting a minute or so and turning it back on again. (Also turn your laptop off and on again).

Hi Bc I tried your suggestion but it didn't work for the l/top,but two mobile phones that we had tried previously did gain access to the internet.Which would suggest that there is a problem with the l/top.I've had it for a few years now but it's hardly ever used. Thanks

It could have been a dual problem, with both the router and the laptop. Now that you've fixed the router problem, try another reset of the laptop's TCP/IP stack. It might just work.

Also try connecting the laptop to the router via an ethernet cable. That way you'll be able to see whether it's just a wireless connection problem or something else.

Hi BC I haven't got a spare Ethernet cable so I took out the one from the PC end and put into the l/top,and left the other end in the router.Still no joy I'm afraid.Was I defeating the object by dis connecting from the PC? Thanks.

If you can't connect to the internet either wirelessly or via an ethernet cable then it sounds like the network adapter driver is corrupt.

Using your desktop, go to the website of the laptop's manufacturer, find the support section, locate the network adapter driver's set-up file and download it to a USB stick. Use that to copy the file to your laptop and then run it. Restart your laptop and cross your fingers!
