If they find it is so difficult for them to 'come out' then perhaps they are better leaving and thus making a job available for someone who really needs a job?

I asked for clarification because you appeared to be saying that 'perhaps they are better [off] leaving and thus making a job available for someone who really needs a job'.

The implication (which I have inferred) is that the people leaving don't really need a job (as opposed to leaving for a position in another company).

This is why I asked "Is that right?" at the end of my post, in order to get clarity on what you meant.

So, why did you mean?

But the implication is right there.

Put another way:

"It's freezing cold outside, why don't you give up your parka to someone who really needs a jacket"

The implication is that the person who is wearing the parka doesn't need it. You haven't said explicitly that the parka-wearer doesn't need it, but the implication is there - even though you didn't mean it. I believe this is what people have picked up on, in this thread.

But leaving that aside, it begs the question of the point of the question in the first place.

Gay people find it difficult to come out at work, so they leave companies for other gainful employment. Therefore, what's the point of your question? What are you actually asking??.
Are we any closer to getting an explanation of the basis of the question rather than the incomprehensible outrage?

erm that is why they are leaving

and if industry were to take this into account then they could save MONEY ! which is after all the point of being in business

Please help. I and others don't understand why you've raised this question.

The article states that gay people are leaving their jobs because they find it difficult coming out, and you have asked:

The point of the story is that this causes unnecessary spending in advertising and recruitment.

What point are you trying to make? I'm not the only one who doesn't unders why you've raised this question.

The only thing the mods should have done is report your unbelievable comments to the Ed. Your half baked spin on what you actually wrote doesn't wash with me and is insufficient.
If you thought a little, AOG, you may have come to the conclusion that this is all half-baked twaddle that the Independent came up with. What does one's sexuality have to do with fitness for employment? It doesn't.
