What are your opinions on people who dress up pets?

My sister as got a chihuaha she dresses up (not cheap clothes either ) she as now bought a new puppy should she start dressing this one up or leave the poor thing alone .She loves to walk along oxford street in london parading the dog in front of tourists all dressed up .What are your opinions ?

It's very sad, and I think she's got more money than sense, but as long as the dog is happy, healthy, well trained and well cared for, then it's up to your sister what she does.

As I type this, I'm seeing a clip of an alsation being skinned alive (the McCartney fur documentary). Kinda makes people like your sister pretty harmless, really.

Ummmm,poor dogs,if they want to dress something up then buy a doll,i should think the dogs are mortified when they see their mates out and about,i always think these people are missing out on something else in their lives to want to dress up their animals!!

Hi electricblue , she absolutely dotes on this dog, i think she loves it more than my niece sometimes.

It's a dog, not a child. Chihuahuas are tough little dogs, not delicate babies. At least she walks it instead of carrying it in one of those stupid bags. Let the thing use it's legs, for goodness sake.

I couldn't bring myself to watch the fur thing. I read a newspaper article about what they do to dogs before they eat them in some countries, and I can't get certain bits of it out of my head, especially as they were talking about a medium sized black dog, like mine. So in my head, it's my dog. I've also got a shepherd, and I don't need to watch him being skinned whenever I haven't got anything else to think about.

I bet it was terrible - you have a stronger stomach than me.

I think that old dogs need a warm jacket or jersey. My lab/gsd mix had a jacket but he wouldn't wear his matching bootees - he was forever getting iced up paws.

Animals are born dressed.

People who dress up their animals are very unlikely to ill treat them. I would rather see a dog that is spoilt and dressed up than one who is abandoned or ill treated.

a bit sad really - dogs werent meant to wear clothes and be an accessory. thats why they have fur.

Making a chihuahua walk amongst the crowds in Oxford St. is probably more worrying than it being dressed up - unless it's wearing body armour.

Anyway, in answer to your question, I too dislike seeing dogs made up to look like dolls, it makes them look stupid, however I have to agree that if this is the worst that she does to her dog it's a very fortunate pooch indeed compared with how people do treat dogs around the world.

They have never completely grown up from their childhood and should probably go back to their nurseries and play with their dolls.

your sister is a show off but why not?! she loves her dog and why not show it off! as someone else said, she is not mistreating it! we all love to show our dogs off dont we? we love it when someone stops and says what a lovely dog we have, I cant see the problem really as long as she is looking after it and excercising it properly
