Drilling A Bthome Hub

I have a BT Home Hub Type B which I wish to attach to a high narrow shelf. Is it safe to drill a fixing hole through the base ( are there any electronic fittings within the base? ).

I find that heavy duty velcro ( Amazon) is very good for this purpose make sure you do not cover any vents.

I second Whiskeyron's answer. You don't want to be drilling through the router. The fillings are going to get thrown all over the circuit board. Also if you have any issues with your broadband connection in the future and an engineer comes out and see that you have drilled through your router - they may well charge you for the call out. If I remember right it's £50 to have them come round.

Should you hit any metal that is. Obviously plastic isn't an issue but it just isn't worth the risk.

I have no experience with the hub, but concur warranty and support could be compromised. But it you are able to open the thing, and remove the base to drill, then there ought not be a swarf / damage issue to the guts of the thing. I would not be happy trying to drill it with it still holding the electronics. Hoping your velcro holds.

Command Strips are good but the bonus of velcro is that you can remove the router off the wall if you need to (temporary).

Diz, you can get velcro command strips. The advantage over self adhesive velcro is that when you do need to remove the velcro, there is no adhesive mark left.
