Putin may be a sociopath or just a megalomaniac, but the fact remains that the Russians love a Tsar. Russians hate to have to take personal responsibility themselves, and are only too glad when someone comes along who wants to take that reponsibility off them. It comes of a long heritage of communist state control, when anyone could be blamed, (and punished) for anything, so people preferred not to be noticed.
