The Fall Of The Fourth Reich?
44 Answers
This year sees the commemoration of old World wars, and the parallels with current events are there to be seen.
The Fourth Reich, otherwise known as the EU, is a monstrous army of bureaucrats through which Germany is once again seeking to dominate Europe.
Once again, Britain stands pretty much alone against its advance.
The unworkable Euro has caused a recession which leaves Germany in charge of events.
Fourth time lucky, or might Greece show the way to pull down the whole mess? Their exit would show British voters that an exit is entirely feasible, and a referendum would get us back in control of our own country.

Yes, why not?
//I wasn't saying Germany is trying to impose anything like Nazism -
Neither was I but, being a member of the general public, whose 20th century historical knowledge is mainly TV-based, the word "Reich" is irreversibly associated with Nazism.
With clearer thinking it's possible to conceive that territorial domination is not entirely ruled out by left wing politcs. But it is anathema to most lefties, who concentrate on collaberativeness and 'spreading the wealth'.
//just hyperbole to make a point. //
Okay. But ABers tend to pick apart the fact that a posting is OTT first, so as to discourage that sort of thing, before getting into the meat of the topic. We're not Sun readers.
//What I was trying to ask is do we want to be part of a federal Europe, dominated by Germany?//
On Facebook, I've encountered people in the USA who don't like the existence of the Federal Government there. (They just hate taxes on all levels and want all government scrapped - Libertarians, I reckon). I probably resent the fact that some of my taxes get spent on foreign lands and from which I'll never feel the benefit but, if I consider myself a socialist of any shade, I guess I'm just going to have to accept that this is what my ideology means, even if what I'd prefer is that my taxes assist the needy in this country -first- and only the leftovers, if any, to go to Europe.
Thus, if they continue to let in fresh impoverished people on one side of Europe and let many of them filter through to here, unhindered, then we'll need ever more of our own taxes to build fresh infrastructure to make their new lives liveable. The EU must reduce the amount they expect us to put in the kitty.
Other EU countries DO take their own share of immigrants and similarly need to trim what they put in the kitty. The 'club' membership fee needs to be increased if its powers to make Europe functional aren't to be diminished. I wonder what the new eastern European member countries will think about having their membership costs hiked?
// The left / right politics is irrelevant to the basic question.//
I didn't think so. I associate that "we're better than everyone else" attitude, which those in a dominant position usually adopt, with the right wing. So I went off on one. I apologise for side-tracking your thread.
Just for clarification, would you agree that Federalism is not especially a right or left wing concept? It's just teamwork, right?

Forgot to add: since the thread title still contains a word which many in the older generation will still find repulsive, you might be better off starting a fresh thread about Federalism, German domination of EU or whatever the actual concern is.
Like I said, the hyperbole didn't help you, on this occasion.
