I wouldn't put any ointment on your scar and where you're itching but I'd go for an antihistamine tablet to stop the itching - when I had my own ops I took Piriton, downside of that, made me drowsy-stopped the itch though
I have answered in Business &Finance.
Ooops! just had a thought........the ointment is better than the cream:

Hydrocortisone Ointment 1%
They're just healing.

I reckon you could rub around rather than on, in the hope of overloading the nerve with signal, and thus toning down the itch sensation.
