i bought it 3 weeks ago and it is taking more than £10 a week from me, i only really use it for emergencys or to keep in touch by text, its costing a fortune!

If you have a home computer, for example, the internet service should be delivered via WiFi modem which will provide service to your phone. When Mrs. C and I got our first smart phones (Apple 5S) we were amazed at (1) how much less battery life we had and (2) how much data the things gobbled.
Friends guided us through the WiFi thing and it certainly makes a big difference.
Your "plan" should provide unlimited talk and text so neither of those (at least here) are counted as "data"...
