Mobile phone and landline

I am with BT for landline and Broadband

Does anyone know if it is possible to setup my landline telephone calls (incoming and outgoing) on my mobile? I would assume I will not be able to keep my landline telephone number, which supports my broadband.

After reading about the many people who no longer have a landline, I began to wonder if I might be able to get some advantages if I changed.

However, International and long distance and certain UK phone numbers can be very expensive when called from a mobile.

I would very much appreciated any ideas or advice

I was wondering the same thing, Old Salt. How could I use my laptop without a landline? I don't have a Blackberry, would it be better if I did, then could I get rid of BT?

The thing is I think ( not sure) you need a land line for broadband.
Is it possible to broadcast broadband in a format suitable for mobile 'phone use?

I'm unsure what you mean by setup your landline calls on your mobile. You make mobile calls on a mobile, and landline calls on a fixed landline. Usually since you want broadband anyway, it is financially worthwhile to make as many landline calls in preference to mobile, as possible.

Not if you're with Virgin (fibre optic cable service). We have their 20MB broadband service and no landline... use our mobiles for calls...

Yes, I've been with Virgin for years from when it was Telewest.

I have the tv and broadband but no landline at all. I use my mobile phone and SkypeOut.

OH uses Skype too... for keeping in touch with her sisters... one up North and one in Oz...

The SkypeOut is good because it gives me a landline number that people can ring for the same cost as phoning a regular landline.

Because Virgin Media is not wireless surely it is considered a landline.

Ron, the point being you can pay for the broadband without paying for a landline phone, with Virgin.
You need neither a BT landline phone nor a Virgin landline phoneline.

Thanks everybody. As I don't want to start a dialogue with BT, I will continue with the broadband and telephone I have now.

At one time BT gave me a phone I could use on the boardband, but it had a different telephone number for my normal landline which supports my broadband

Still don't understand how people with broadband can get away without a landline telephone number.

But, there are a lot of things I don't understand and so, I shall add it to the list.
