Which incidentally was a very fair way of spreading the cost of local services by ensuring that every person paid something rather than based on property. Of course the great unwashed didn't like this idea because it meant they had to make a contribution so they decided to riot. She should have stuck to her guns.
surprising politician - whom you wouldnt see amongst the pale imitations we get nowadays
consistenly topped the 'the most popular' AND the "most unpopular" polls simultaneously - as used to Arthur Scargill
Her reign can be divided into three ( her administrations )
first - she was forced to have Edw heaths very bright boys in her canbinet and did well
second - she started putting in her own choices and did less well
third admin - she filled the cabinet with handsome 'yes men' who were awful
and one awful one was Mickel portillo who came up with the idea that the consumer should pay for the services he uses ( see above ). And this inevitably means the poor shoulder a greater burden - so they rioted.
Portaloo should have read the books - it is all there in books on theory of taxation.
( if you tax consumption rather than income, the poor get it in the neck because they dont stop consuming basics even on a small income )

Never ever thought I would say this Gordi, I admired her for her " Balls" this Idiot we have now is / never will be in the same class as Thatcher, she was strong, & would not Back down, the EU Would have been told where to go, but her own "Back Stabbers" got her + she was beginning to be a dictator.
Hardly just Scotland. Her, "Greed is good", "There is no such thing as society", "You do what you want to better yourself and step on who you like as you go", type messages affected the dominant psyche of the whole nation, which won't likely be healed for many generations. Her destruction of the working class' ability to protest without jumping through umpteen hoops; her Monetarism mantra and associated policies that devastated jobs and industries was bound to cause problems and suffering and consequential ill feeling. It's pushed previous progress in society for the majority back considerably, with employers now having by far the upper hand over the workers, to insist on what they wish, and the masses having to suck it up. I'm not sure why you have to ask.
