Adsl2+ Or Vdsl
12 Answers
I have just signed up to BT infinity. However, I want to used my existing router which is far better than the BT Home Hub.
My router plugs into a adsl2+ modem.
Will that work with BT infinity?
Do I need a vdsl modem instead?
Can anyone recommend a stand aline vdsl modem (not with router)?

I had lots of trouble with my Virgin Media broadband (they gave me a crap router). After much grief and calls to their engineers, i bought a decent router before christmas. Only to find out last week and that Virgin had given me away to TalkTalk, who I definitely do jot want to be with.
I have a foreboding feeling that it won't be a smooth transition.

Mikey,
I know people with BTHubs and they are notorious for dropping wifi. One of the main reasons I hadn't moved to Infinity before, is there are a lot of reports of it not working properly with AppleTV, of which I have 2.
My previous router from Virgin would not reach to some corners of my house. It is an old stone building with thick walls. It woyldn't reach the bathroom where I like to listen to podcasts while I soak. So before Christmas I bought an expensive hi spec dual ac router which has been great. Then Virgin are closing their non-cable broadband so I had to move.

Not a good start.
Got an SMS to my phone telling me The transfer was done and I was now on BT. Plugged in the hub and I have been trying to get it working for an hour, no joy. So I get my iPad and connect to BTs free WiFi hotspot, and was going to try and troubleshoot when ping, An email from BT. It says phone connected, do not connect your hub yet, we will send you an email when it is ready. Grrr, they send an instruction by email when the broadband isn't connected!

It worked.
BT said my broadband would be off for half an hour during the change over and it was actually off for 5 hours.
Went in the Hub set up and turned off both wifi radios, then connected my router by ethernet. Used the Routers set up to create a new wifi network. Restarted everything and all my devices and it all works.
