Why is it I can only find the average band D council tax bill for the UK / England online and no others? Do the rest of us not matter? Especially those of us at the lower end of the scale for whom it really matters which area we move to?! Any ideas what it is anyone? Shall we all shout ours out and do a survey?

Although council tax amounts vary across the country, the ratios between the bands don't. Local councillors calculate what they intend to charge for Band D and, because of the fixed ratios, all of the other figures are calculated from this.

It's all based upon one ninth of the Band D figure.
Households in Band A pay 6 ninths of the Band D amount.
Those in Band B pay 7 ninths.
Band C pays 8 ninths.
Band D, obviously, pays 9 ninths.
Band E pays 11 ninths.
Band F pays 13 ninths.
Band G pays 15 ninths.
Band H pays 18 ninths.

So, if you know the Band D rate, you can work out all of the other rates.

In Wales during 2005 a process of revaluation/rebanding was completed which saw the introduction of Band I, with the multiplier set at 21 ninths.
That's interesting Kempie - yet another stealth tax, this time on those with more valuable houses.
