Do all hospices permit alcohol?

If a hospice allows patients to have a drink is it provided by the hospice, the patient/their family or is it a combination of both?

As far as i know, they do. providing there is no medical contra-indication, why shouldn't they?

I can't see the hospice providing booze for social use.

The hospice my dad was in came round with a trolley. For the patience only provided by the hospice.

I suppose you could bring your own in as well.

Thank you. I wish to make a donation of booze in memory of two friends who have recently died and wasn't sure what the deal was with regards to alcohol.

Provision of lcohol as a medication in terminal cases is an old and honoured practice.

I wouldn't mind a pint of Brompton Coctail when the time comes

Both my friends were pictured with a glass of something in their final days and I would like to support that offering for others.

I hope the people who are slowly passing, gets their wish to have their last ciggie, guiness or whatever they ask for.
Cant see no harm in being granted whatever it takes to make them happy.

What a great idea Eccles and a fine tribute. Its worth double checking with the individual hospice I suppose, just in case the policy varies from place to place. it would be a shame to have it refused or for either party to be offended.

Thanks all. I will check with my local hospices but just wanted to check what the general policy was as my two friends were in different countries.

There may not be an overarching policy about this as most hospices are independent, but when I worked in the hospice, if the patient was terminal, there was to reason to deny them a drink. Sometimes the hospice already had it in stock - if the patient liked something particularly, their visitors would bring it in.
